The French Jura is on the Eastern side of France, between Burgundy to the West, and Switzerland to the East, 2 hours from Paris by TGV (fast train), 1h30 from Lyon by car, and 1 hour from Geneva by car. The French Jura is unique and pure, natural, with local know-how and trades, and offers a warm welcome to everybody. The French Jura takes its name from the mountain range to the East, but it is also a four-seasons tourist resort offering a wide selection of landscapes and activities in plains, vineyards, lakes and waterfalls, high plateaux, combs, and mountains.

The French Jura is a French tourist destinations offering high quality surroundings and services, with a local balanced economy with traditional and innovative trades. The French Jura has excellent quality industries recognised worldwide, eyewear industry, wood for building and toys, agricultural with a large choice of produce, and 14 ¹AOC produces (¹Appellation d'Origine Controllée), of which 7 wines, 3 cheeses, 2 fowl, butter and cream from the Bresse Jurassienne region, including Comté Cheese which is the largest production cheese in France by volume. Tasting is recommended in one of the four Michelin Star rated restaurants, or a number of other quality restaurants, Quality restaurants Gault & Millau, Table Comtoise, Tourism quality, vineyards and other.

Trade and artistic work, diamond, gems, and stone cutters, trunk and box makers, master pipe manufacturers in Saint-Claude, wood lathers and others, are the root of the French Jura economy. The second industrial department in France in terms of employment, The French Jura is home to a large amount of major specialised industries in aeronautics, toys, metal cutting and shaping, and the automotive industry. The French Jura is also very agricultural, the birthplace of 'co-ops' known as 'fruitière (dairies)' that are a link between innovation and cooperative labour to provide quality produce.

With 46% of forestry, the French Jura is a green and sustainable department, as is shown in  the 'Haut Jura Natural Regional Park', the several natural heritage sites that are classified or protected, and the clean air found throughout the department! The French Jura is a reference with regards to outdoor tourism: rambling, trekking, and water sports in the Summer months, and mountain sports in the Wintertime. The Les Rousses ski resort, the first ski resort in France to receive and be awarded the 'flocon vert' label (green snowflake), is the largest ski resort in the department surrounded by 4 Villages, with skiing over the border to Switzerland.

The French Jura offers magnificent landscapes, geology, and exceptional historical value: dinosaur tracks, modern arts museum, Dole - a town of Arts and History, classified natural or beautiful heritage villages, Toy Museum, the Maison de la Vache qui Rit, the salt mines in Salins-les-Bains classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the eyewear museum, etc...

Finally, the French Jura is the birth place of Rouget de Lisle, the author of the "Marseillaise", the French national anthem, born in Lons-le-Saunier, and Louis Pasteur to whom we  owe Pasteurisation and the rage vaccine, born on Dole and lived in Arbois, and Louis Vuitton famous for baggage and leather goods manufacturing.
